Privacy Policy
1. About
Leegaa Limited (“Leegaa”, “leegaa”, “we”, “us”, “our”) created the leegaa service to help sports fans enjoy a competition together. Running the service means we collect some personal information about you. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we look after it, and what you can do. It applies to leegaa.app and any related communications such as emails. We are committed to meeting our obligations under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 for all users, and under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (including the Australian Privacy Principles) for users based in Australia.
2. Personal information we collect
2.1 What you give us directly
- Your real name, game name, email address and postcode when you register.
- Which competitions you want to follow, and your team preferences (Heart rankings) for these competitions.
- Your predictions (Head selections) for each round of matches in a competition.
- Any information you choose to share with us directly, for example through a support enquiry.
2.2 What we collect automatically
- Device and usage information — such as your device/browser type, general usage patterns, and how you interact with the app — collected through Google Analytics (GA4).
- Your general timezone, detected automatically from your browser, so match times display correctly for you.
- Basic sign-in and session information needed to keep you logged in securely.
We do not currently collect payment details, government ID numbers, or any special category of sensitive information (such as health information) as part of using the leegaa service.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you register, use the service, or contact us. We collect some information automatically through cookies and analytics tools when you use the app, as described in clause 6.
4. Why we use your personal information
- To create and run your leegaa account, including signing you in via a magic link.
- To operate Heads and Hearts selections, calculate your scores, and generate your personalised cards.
- To send you service emails, such as round reminders and result summaries.
- To understand how people use Leegaa and improve the app, including through analytics.
- To combine information into aggregated statistics — for example, how many users rank a particular team as #1 — which may be used for our own reporting, and may be shared with current and prospective partners (such as sport organisers, advertisers and investors). We do not include your name or contact details in these aggregated statistics.
- To meet our legal obligations and keep the service secure.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only with:
- service providers who help us run leegaa, such as our cloud hosting and database provider, our authentication provider (for magic-link sign-in), and our email delivery providers — who are only permitted to use your information to provide these services to us;
- analytics providers (Google Analytics, provided by Google LLC) to help us understand app usage, as described in clause 6;
- current and prospective partners (such as sport organisers, advertisers and investors) to demonstrate the performance of the service;
- anyone else, where required by law, or with your consent.
Where our service providers store or process information outside New Zealand or Australia, we take reasonable steps to ensure they protect it consistently with this policy and applicable privacy law. We aim to keep hosting and data processing within New Zealand or Australia where practical. Google Analytics is the exception: Google processes analytics information outside New Zealand and Australia, including in the United States (see clause 6).
6. Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics (GA4), a service provided by Google LLC, to understand how people use the leegaa service — for example, which pages or features are used most, how many people sign up, and how often cards are viewed and shared. Google Analytics uses cookies or similar technologies, and collects information such as your device and browser type, the pages and screens you view, your approximate location (which Google works out from your IP address), and how you interact with the app.
We keep what we send to Google Analytics to a minimum. We do not send your name, email address, game name, postcode, Heart rankings or Head selections, and we do not send your sign-in links or anyone's invite code. We have turned off Google signals and ad personalisation, so Google does not use this information to show you ads.
Google stores and processes Google Analytics information on its servers outside New Zealand and Australia, including in the United States. Google keeps it for a limited period, after which it is deleted.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using Google's own opt-out tools (such as the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on). Turning cookies off may affect how well the leegaa service works for you.
7. How we protect and retain your information
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, including through access controls on our systems and secure hosting. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but we design Leegaa's sign-in system (no stored passwords, short-lived sign-in tokens, ability to revoke sessions) with this in mind.
We keep your personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as required by law. If you close your account, we will delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep it for legal or accounting reasons.
8. Your rights
You have the right to ask us what personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. You can also ask us to delete your account and associated personal information at any time.
- New Zealand users can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (privacy.org.nz) if you are unhappy with how we have handled a privacy concern.
- Australian users can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
We would prefer you contact us first so we can try to resolve any concern directly — see clause 11.
9. Age restriction
Leegaa is intended for users aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from someone under 16, we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example as Leegaa's features grow beyond the current trial. If we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, such as an in-app notice or email, before it takes effect.
